Wild How
Wild Spirit is an attempt to gather in the open air and engage with the natural world and the divine. We will typically meet on the beach, on the hillside, in the forest or in an urban environment, but always outside and whatever the weather. The first few moments will be spent recognising where we are, thinking and feeling our way into the place and creating a space for ourselves within it, such as a circle of stones or branches.
We usually say these words together: “We are here because we want to be. We recognise where we are, and we are grateful for it.”
There may be a reading or two, a story or a poem, inspired by the surroundings. There will be silence for a while, a time to listen to the world . Someone might lead us through a meditation that recognises all that is going on around us, engaging our senses of touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. We may say words together that recognise the turning of the seasons, the wheel of the year. We choose our collective words carefully so that everyone can share the experience, each in their own way. Some will be praying, some reflecting, some looking at the view. There will often be some kind of physical act to engage with where we are, such as building stone cairns or wetting our hands in the sea. There will be a chance to wander off on your own and explore, think, listen to music on your headphones, or talk to friends, old or new. Then, when we come back together as a group, we will share any food and drink that people have brought, express our thanks for it and have a closing moment.
And that’s that. We’ll be together for about an hour, but you don’t have to rush away if you don’t want to. Wild Spirit is facilitated by people with roots in the Christian tradition but who have a strong appreciation of the wisdom of many other paths and traditions and who would like to invite everyone to be part of this. The language of Wild Spirit is carefully chosen so that all are equal and able to take part and experience what is happening on their own terms. You are welcome.
