Wild September
Wild Spirit is a gathering of people looking for something out in the open. We meet at 10am on the first Saturday of every month at a different location (usually on the South Coast, but not always) seeking to recognise the sacred in the natural world.
The next Wild Spirit will take place near the Coastguard Cottages at Cuckmere Haven at 10am on Saturday September 1, meeting initially at South Hill Barn Car Park. If you need a lift there let us know via the contact form and we will try to help.
We are delighted to say that this Wild Spirit will take place in the context of the beautiful Lapwing Festival, details of which are here.
So what happens at Wild Spirit? We gather for an hour or so in the open air. We take time to breathe in where we are, to experience it through all of our senses for a while in a very gentle, led meditation and to try to understand the place, its history and geography and what is going on. It’s a chance to stop and be still.
We might share our thoughts and reactions (although you certainly don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to) then we often do something physical in response to what we have found, like build a cairn or make and fly a kite.
We go off and each have a wander, exploring what’s around us, before coming back together to share any food and drink people have brought, then close with a blessing.
The idea is that the divine – by whatever name is used – is present in the natural world, if we will take time to stop, breathe and listen.
There is no cost, no membership and no expectation of you, beyond being present. You don’t have to believe in any particular thing and we’re certainly not looking to sign you up. Wild Spirit is inspired by ancient spiritual practise and modern thinking, rooted in Christianity but open to wisdom wherever it may be found. All are welcome and we use words that we hope will help you to feel at home and able to participate, wherever you’re coming from.
This map shows how to get to South Hill Barn car park from the main road, the A259. Once we have all gathered together we will walk along the central path towards the beach, past the marquee for the Lapwing Festival on the left and the coastguard cottages on the right. At the bottom of the hill on the edge of the beach is the cable hut, our next stop, after which we will be on the beach. If you happen to be late, follow this route and you will surely find us! If in doubt call Cole on 07710 614035.
